Well, although, the story or situation seems like an old one in 2005 or so. But, still in 2009 the situation is not changed much in different areas of life. Today keeping long beard or vieling is terms as terrorism, which definately is wrong idea by some of liberal minded people. A muslim woman has every right to wear Veil, she don’t want to think what others would feel about it, because its the order of Allaah subhanhu wa ta3laa in Qur’an as:
Surah Al-Ahzaab, Verse #59
‘O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (”Jalabib”) veils all over their bodies that is most convenient that they should be known and not molested: and Allah is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful.”
Sahih Al-Bukhari Volume 6, Book 60, Hadith # 282
Narrated Safiya bint Shaiba (Radhiallaahu Ánha) ”Aa’ishah (Radhiallaahu Ánha) used to say: ”When (the Verse): ”They should draw their veils over their necks and bosoms,” was revealed, (the ladies) cut their waist sheets at the edges and covered their faces with the cut pieces.
This Hadees clearly tell the action of Muslim women of that time who were Sahabiat (r.a) on the above verses i.e. they used to cover their faces.
Sahih Al-Bukhari Volume 1, Book 8, Hadith # 368
Narrated ’Aa’ishah (Radhiallaahu Ánha) Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam) used to offer the Fajr prayer and some believing women covered with their veiling sheets used to attend the Fajr prayer with him and then they would return to their homes unrecognized.
Here the word of Unrecognized completey explain that the women at that time used to cover their faces otherwise they can be easily recognized by their faces.
I hope that these evidences from the scripture of Qur’an (the noble holy book for muslims) and Hadeeth (famous authentic prophetic (asw) traditions collected) explained that Allaah (God) Asks from a muslim woman to cover herself and veil herself.
Now, if this Vieling is threatning her its the matter of her Imaan (faith) in Allaah that How much she loves Allaah and How much she wants to obey Allaah and follow His commands. Generally speaking even sisters in USA, do not hasitate to use vieling for obedience to Allaah for their own safety.
Those of people that misunderstand that Viel, may Allaah guide them and tell them the truth of Islaam, ameen.
And Allaah knows the best.
